The scene where Jefferson, a black victim, went with Brother and Bear, who offered him a ride. They went to a liquor store, where Brother and Bear demanded that Alcee Gropé, the store owner, give them drinks. Alcee didn't because they had no cash. The argument led to shooting resulting in the deaths of Alcee, Brother, and Bear, leaving Jefferson alone in the store. Jefferson stayed at the scene frightened and two white men walked into the store. The white jury found Jefferson guilty of robbery and murder in the first degree, sentenced him to death by electrocution.
